On Thursday, January 9, 2020, more than 200 delighted local music-lovers were treated to the stories, traditional and original songs, and instrumental music of Georgia folk musician John McCutcheon at Angels Camp’s Bret Harte Union High School.

The concert was a 30th anniversary benefit for the Foothill Conservancy. We introduced John to this area in 1992 in our first community concert and have presented him here several times since in venues ranging from Sutter Creek’s Minnie Provis Little League ballfield to the Mokelumne Hill Town Hall. This was his first-ever performance and our first-ever event in Angels Camp.

In Angels, John was joined by young folk duo Red Tail Ring, Laurel Premo and Michael Beauchamp-Cohen. They played alone and later with John, lending their considerable instrumental talents and beautiful harmony singing to this delightful, special, and uplifting musical and community event.

We’d like to thank everyone who came and enjoyed the show. Special thanks are due to theater director Dave Duggan and his student assistants, concert coordinator Marta Johnson, our administrative assistant, Carolyn Schooley, and the volunteers who made the evening a great success by providing homemade baked goods, taking tickets, selling merchandise, and helping with the countless other tasks required to pull off a concert.

We’d also like to thank professional photographer Shelly Thorene of Placerville, who shot wonderful photos of the concert. It was truly a night to remember!
