2020 marks the 30th anniversary of the official founding of the Foothill Conservancy! While local residents concerned about the futures of Amador and Calaveras counties first began to gather and share pot-luck dinners and concerns in the summer of 1989, the Conservancy became a California nonprofit corporation and an IRS-registered nonprofit in 1990.
None of the organization’s founders could have imagined that the group would still be around 30 years later. But thanks to the generous support of our members, donors, and funders, and a lot of hard work by our volunteers and staff, we have persisted!
In the process, we’ve learned a great deal, achieved some significant victories, hosted a lot of fun events, and outlasted four local opposition groups. Being motivated by the love of our Sierra foothill communities and environment has proven to be a strong and lasting bond.
We plan to celebrate our anniversary throughout the year. Watch for event listings (assuming we all get to gather together once again before too long) and our new 30th anniversary logo, created by David Design of Jamestown.
We’re also thinking about creating some 30th anniversary logo merchandise, so if you have ideas about that, please call Carolyn in our office at 209-223-3508 or send us an e-mail. We think our anniversary logo would look great on coffee cups, water bottles, and similar items, but we’d like to know what you think.
Thank you for your support over the last three decades!
